MANILA, Philippines — Singer Denise Julia, who had announced a social media detox, broke her silence on Wednesday, December 25, to address the ongoing photoshoot and music video (MV) controversy with celebrity photographer BJ Pascual.
In her Instagram Stories, Denise shared screenshots of conversations between her manager, John Vincent Salcedo, and BJ’s manager, Pearl Acuesta. She provided context for each screenshot, detailing the discussions between their teams.
The conversations, which began in May, revolved around a potential collaboration for Julia’s upcoming EP. Julia’s team had allocated P600,000 for the photoshoot, which they communicated to BJ’s team on July 18. They waited a month to confirm if the budget was feasible.
A fan of BJ Pascual, Julia was eager to work with him and adjusted her deadlines to fit his schedule. They had two Zoom meetings and personal calls to exchange ideas. Initially, the plan was just a photoshoot, but BJ expressed interest in directing his first MV.
Despite follow-ups from Julia’s manager, BJ’s team did not confirm the budget. Julia stated that they would have withdrawn if they had known the budget was unworkable. Three weeks later, BJ’s team proposed a revised cost of P1.2 million. Julia’s team tried to stretch their budget to P800,000, considering dropping the MV to focus on layouts.
On July 10, BJ’s team indicated availability from July 26 to 28. However, on August 12, two days before the shoot, BJ’s team revised the budget to P1 million. Julia emphasized the importance of budget clarity from the start to avoid last-minute changes.
Julia posted the screenshots to clarify details not covered in BJ’s podcast with Killa Kush on December 20, where he labeled Julia as the “worst celebrity/model” he had worked with. BJ recounted the failed collaboration with frustration.
Julia clarified that her manager had suggested rescheduling the shoot to avoid cancellation fees, but ultimately, BJ’s team canceled due to budget disagreements. Julia acknowledged her mistake in not reaching out sooner and expressed her commitment to resolving the issue in person with BJ.
