Netflix Drops Trailer for Jason Paul Laxamana’s Sosyal Climbers Starring Maris Racal & Anthony Jennings
MANILA, Philippines – Netflix has officially unveiled the trailer for Sosyal Climbers, the latest film from director Jason Paul Laxamana, starring Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings.
The comedy-drama follows two aspiring socialites who, after falling victim to a scam and accumulating massive debt, create fake identities to con the wealthy. Maris and Anthony’s characters, Jessa and Kiefer, pose as an elite couple—Penelope and Kiefer Regalado—alleged graduates of prestigious international schools.
“Pagkakitaan natin ‘yung mga boring marriages nila,” declares Maris’ character, Jessa, as they scheme their way into high society. Meanwhile, Anthony’s Kiefer adds, “Gagawin ko ang lahat para matupad ‘yung pangarap mo, kasi ngayon, ikaw na din ‘yung pangarap ko eh.”
The highly anticipated MaThon project stems from the viral SnoRene love team formed in their previous hit series, Can’t Buy Me Love. However, Sosyal Climbers arrives amid controversy, following a recent cheating scandal involving Anthony’s ex-partner, Jam Villanueva. Both Maris and Anthony have since issued apologies and made limited public appearances, including minimal promotions for their 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, And The Breadwinner Is.
Now, the duo is stepping back into the spotlight, actively promoting their latest series Incognito, co-starring Daniel Padilla, Richard Gutierrez, and Ian Veneracion.
