Terrafirma Retains Rights to Christian Standhardinger Despite Retirement Decision
Terrafirma still holds the rights to Christian Standhardinger, even after the 35-year-old big man announced his retirement from the PBA. Commissioner Willie Marcial emphasized that Standhardinger has one month left on his contract with the Dyip, which runs until the end of the year.
If Standhardinger’s contract expires and Terrafirma makes a qualifying offer for a new contract, the Dyip will retain his rights. Without an offer, the team loses its rights to Standhardinger.
“Kapag nag-offer ang Terrafirma ng kontrata, nasa kanila yung rights. Kung hindi sila nag-offer at tapos na yung kontrata, free agent na siya (Standhardinger),” Marcial explained. Standhardinger informed Terrafirma management of his retirement decision after missing the second half of the last Governors’ Cup due to a hyper-extended knee.
He has not attended team practices since the Dyip resumed training and later notified management of his decision. The former Gilas Pilipinas center is not yet eligible to be an unrestricted free agent, as he has not met the required 21 conferences played to qualify as a UFA.
