Scottie Thompson's Christmas Day Heroics and Milestone

Scottie Thompson’s Unforgettable Christmas Day Performance

Scottie Thompson made Christmas Day unforgettable by hitting the game-winning three-pointer against Magnolia in the PBA Christmas Day Clasico. On the same night, he was honored for reaching his 2,000th career assist milestone at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Thompson, a former MVP, achieved this milestone at the 2:08 mark of the first period during Ginebra’s game against Terrafirma on December 18 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, a game the Kings won 114-98.

During halftime of the Ginebra-Magnolia game, Commissioner Willie Marcial presented the 31-year-old Thompson with a specially-crafted PBA plaque in front of 12,198 fans at the Big Dome.

Thompson is only the third player in Barangay Ginebra history to reach this milestone, following LA Tenorio and Jayjay Helterbrand, and the sixth active player to do so, joining Tenorio, Alex Cabagnot, Jayson Castro, Chris Ross, and Mark Barroca. Overall, he is the 32nd player in the 49-year history of the PBA to achieve this feat.

This milestone comes just two months after Thompson reached his 2,000th defensive rebound on November 3 during Game 4 of the Governors’ Cup finals between TNT and Ginebra.

Thompson capped off Christmas night by hitting a clutch corner three at the buzzer, leading the Kings to a dramatic 95-92 comeback win against the Hotshots, overcoming a 22-point deficit.
