San Miguel Beermen are not out of the PBA Governors’ Cup yet. They have one more game against the Converge FiberXers, and despite being on the ropes, they remain optimistic about their chances.
“Ang maganda dun may isang game pa,” said star wingman CJ Perez. “Kailangan naming mag-regroup, kailangan naming mag-prepare.”
The crucial do-or-die game is scheduled for Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. This match seemed unlikely at the start of the best-of-five series, but the FiberXers made it possible with back-to-back wins. They rallied from a 27-point deficit in Game 3 and led by as many as 17 points in Game 4.
Converge is now on the verge of their first-ever semifinals appearance in franchise history, showcasing their best playoff performance to date. Perez acknowledges the Beermen’s struggles and the FiberXers’ momentum.
“Mahirap siyempre naka-momentum rin sila (FiberXers) and hindi rin naman basta-basta yung Converge,” said Perez, last year’s Best Player of the Conference in the Commissioner’s Cup.
Perez, who was in foul trouble for most of the second half of Game 4, finished with 11 points but was scoreless in the last two quarters. Despite this, he believes San Miguel’s fate is still in their hands.
“Naka-depende pa rin sa amin. Kilala naman natin yung San Miguel kung paano maglaro,” said Perez.
The winner of this sudden-death game will advance to face Barangay Ginebra in the best-of-seven semifinals.
