THE NLEX Road Warriors were good for just four wins in a tough grind the last conference.
Just into three games in PBA Season 48 Philippine Cup, the Road Warriors have got two and are determined to make it three as they tangle with the struggling Converge FiberXers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.
They are right there behind unbeaten pacesetters Blackwater Bossing (3-0) and Terrafirma Dyip (2-0), and the goal is to get going and push their redemption bid after their disappointing ninth-place finish in the Commissioner’s Cup.
They see good promise in their 2-1 start and in some experiments they have made, including playing small ball.
“We just have to give extra effort. It’s the first time we played all small. Maganda naman ang naging resulta. We have a lot of offensive options,” said NLEX coach Frankie Lim.
They played small for some stretch in their last outing and escaped with a 99-96 decision over the Meralco Bolts Wednesday at the Big Dome.
Robert Bolick and his teammates trimmed the NorthPort Batang Pier, 107-100, in overtime in their conference debut before falling to a 99-95 ambush by the Terrafirma Dyip.
And so the Road Warriors could have been at 3-0.
Lim maintains they’re a work in progress, and they look forward to their 6:15 p.m. Converge assignment to polish their game.
The NLEX coach, for one, pointed to their tendency to relax.
“I warned our team about our third-quarter collapse. It happens all the time. Ayun, nangyari na naman, it was a 15-point swing,” said Lim of their slide in their return from the halftime break versus the Bolts.
Facing a lot more problems and concerns are coach Aldin Ayo and his Converge troops.
They’re now 0-3 in the all-Filipino tourney and 1-13 overall in the season. (SB)
