Rey Nambatac: Celebrating His First PBA Championship Win

Rey Nambatac: PBA Champion at Last

Rey Nambatac has officially earned the title of PBA champion after a historic victory with TNT in the Governors’ Cup finals. The 30-year-old guard played a pivotal role in TNT’s 95-85 win over Barangay Ginebra in Game 6, held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Nambatac contributed 12 points, shooting an impressive 5-of-7 from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, helping secure the series with a 4-2 finish. His crucial three-pointer early in the fourth quarter sparked an 8-0 run, tying the game at 74-74. The Tropang Giga dominated the final 12 minutes, outscoring the Kings 29-11.

After seven years of striving for this moment, Nambatac expressed his joy, stating, “Naka-abot din sa tuktok,” reflecting on his journey from being drafted 7th overall by Rain or Shine in 2017 to finally achieving his lifelong dream.

His transfer to TNT was a strategic move, especially after the team lost shooting guard Mikey Williams. TNT traded Kib Montalbo, Jewel Ponferada, and a future draft pick to bring Nambatac on board. He admitted that before the trade, he had lost hope of ever winning a PBA championship.

“Blessing in disguise na napunta ako sa TNT,” he shared, emphasizing that this opportunity was his best shot at reaching the finals and becoming a champion. Now, with this victory under his belt, Nambatac looks forward to what the future holds.

This championship not only marks a significant milestone in Nambatac’s career but also sets the stage for more achievements to come.
