Rain or Shine’s Resilience Shines in PBA Governors’ Cup Semifinals Bid
Rain or Shine’s determination, highlighted by import Aaron Fuller’s performance despite a scratched cornea, has propelled the Elasto Painters towards a potential spot in the PBA Governors’ Cup semifinals. Facing a tough quarterfinal opponent in Magnolia, Fuller and his resilient teammates are gearing up for a crucial Game 4 at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday.
Coach Yeng Guiao’s young squad showcased their grit in a thrilling 111-106 overtime victory in Game 3 on Sunday in Antipolo City. This win came after a crushing 52-point defeat in the previous game, with the team overcoming Fuller’s injury and a fierce endgame battle against the Hotshots to take a pivotal 2-1 series lead.
“We’re pleased we managed to control our emotions and play through the endgame,” said Guiao. “Magnolia is a seasoned team, so beating them in a close endgame means we’re also becoming strong in such situations. This experience is crucial for our young team’s development.”
Fuller, who suffered an eye injury from a poke by Ian Sangalang in Game 2, inspired his team by returning unexpectedly in Game 3. He delivered a stellar performance with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists, including key plays in overtime.
“We didn’t expect him to play. He’s a warrior. We’re very fortunate to have Aaron, and his courage significantly impacted our game. We gave our all to ensure his efforts weren’t in vain despite his eye problem,” said Guiao, who advised Fuller to wear protective goggles, though Fuller declined due to discomfort.
Guiao and his team aim to close out the series against the determined Hotshots at 5 p.m.
