Phoenix Super LPG Secures First Win, Defeats Unbeaten NorthPort in PBA Commissioner’s Cup

Phoenix Super LPG finally clinched their first victory of the conference, defeating the previously unbeaten NorthPort squad with a score of 115-109 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Tuesday. Jason Perkins led the charge in the first half, Donovan Smith dominated the third period, and RJ Jazul delivered crucial shots in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

NorthPort, who had tied their franchise’s best start with a 5-0 record, suffered their first loss. Coach Jamike Jarin expressed relief and determination, stating, “This is big, especially when you’re 0-4. We need to climb back, and the most important thing now is the next game against Converge on Thursday.”

Smith scored 26 of his 32 points in the second half, while Jazul added eight of his 14 points in the final quarter, completing the effort started by Perkins, who scored 22 points in the first three periods. Jazul highlighted the team’s improvement, saying, “In our last games, we started well but faltered at the end. After four games, we learned our lessons.”

Coach Jarin commended his players, especially the veterans and Jazul, for maintaining team morale despite a rough start. Jazul’s performance against NorthPort, including a 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, was pivotal.

Perkins ignited the team with 14 points in the first half, leading to a 52-38 advantage. With contributions from Smith, Jazul, and Ken Tuffin in the second half, Phoenix maintained control despite NorthPort’s rallies.
