Rondae Hollis-Jefferson vs. Justin Brownlee: Battle for Best Import Award

As the PBA Governors’ Cup finals approach Game 4 on Sunday, the spotlight is on four standout players vying for top honors. June Mar Fajardo and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson lead the race for the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) and Best Import awards, respectively. However, Japeth Aguilar and Justin Brownlee are also strong contenders, thanks to their teams’ advancement to the finals.

Fajardo, a 10-time BPC winner, dominated the statistical charts with 44.8 points by the end of the semifinals, despite San Miguel’s exit at the hands of Aguilar and Barangay Ginebra Kings. The 6-foot-10 Fajardo averaged 21.0 points, a league-best 16.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.0 blocks.

Aguilar, tied with teammate Scottie Thompson at fifth place with 32.2 points, is expected to challenge Fajardo fiercely. The 37-year-old Ginebra veteran posted impressive stats with 18.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

Other top BPC candidates include Northport’s Arvin Tolentino (37.5 points), NLEX’s Robert Bolick (35.9 points), and San Miguel’s CJ Perez (33.9 points).

Hollis-Jefferson, leading the Best Import race from the start, aims to retain his title after guiding Tropang Giga to the finals. He recorded 57.4 points, averaging 28.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.9 blocks, and a league-best 2.9 steals. Brownlee follows closely with 50.9 points, contributing 28.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks.

Other contenders for the Best Import award include San Miguel’s EJ Anosike (44.6 points) and Rain or Shine’s Aaron Fuller (41.8 points).

The awards are determined by a combination of statistics (45%), media votes (30%), and players’ votes (25%).
