The Tech Centrale had a fumbling opening in Pool A, losing badly to the TNT Triple Guga, 10-21, and needed to overcome a 14-16 deficit to steal the quarters-clinching 21-18 win over Purefoods (0-2).
TH Tumalip and Louie Vigil came through with the big shots in a 7-2 closing barrage that saved the day and kept MCFASolver’s bid for a followup to its Leg 2 conquest alive.
The Tech Centrale advanced to Tuesday’s knockout rounds as No. 2 in Pool A behind the Triple Giga, who bucked the absence of Almond Vosotros due to sickness to sweep the three-team group.
After beating MCFASolver, TNT’s Gryann Mendoza, Chester Saldua, Ping Exciminiano and Matt Salem claimed the top seeding via a 20-13 drubbing of the Titans.
Meanwhile, Meralco and Pioneer Elastoseal took care of business in their first two assignments to secure their Last-8 berths with a game to spare in Pools B and C, respectively.
The Bolts’ Joseph Sedurifa, Alfred Batino, Jeff Manday and JJ Manlangit opened the day with a 21-16 disposal of San Miguel Beer then closed it with a 22-13 drubbing of Ginebra.
For their part, the Katibays scraped past Cavitex, 19-18, then demolished NorthPort, 21-12, for a place in Tuesday’s KO rounds.
