Magnolia Hotshots Face Critical Situation in PBA Commissioner’s Cup

Veteran guard Mark Barroca has acknowledged that the Magnolia Hotshots are in a critical situation in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Currently sitting at the 10th spot and out of the playoff picture, their situation worsened after a 95-92 loss to rival Barangay Ginebra Kings on Christmas Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Despite leading by as many as 22 points in the third period, the Hotshots collapsed in the endgame. “This loss really brings a sense of urgency,” said Barroca.

Magnolia has now lost five of its last six games, dropping to a 2-5 record. With five games left in their schedule, the team aims to turn things around, starting with their January 10 match against winless Terrafirma.

The team will return to practice on December 29 to strategize for a strong comeback in the second half of the season. While the break is welcome, Barroca expressed concerns about maintaining their sense of urgency. “This break is scary for us because our team is struggling. We need to stay sharp for our next game,” said the 38-year-old playmaker from Far Eastern University.

Barroca emphasized the importance of staying in top physical condition to ensure they are ready for their upcoming games.
