YENG Guiao can now heave a sigh of relief after Rain or Shine finally booked a breakthrough win in the PBA Philippine Cup.
As he puts it, it’s a bit of an upgrade from the way the team began its campaign in the season-opening Commissioner’s Cup.
“For a while I was worried na baka maulit yung last conference na 0-5,” Guiao said, referring to the Elasto Painters losing all their first five games in the import-flavored conference.
“Pero at least 1-4 kami ngayon. May improvement naman kami ng kaunti.”
Kidding aside though, the champion coach said the team’s 100-85 victory over Phoenix on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo could be the jumping point for Rain or Shine to get its act together and bounce back following another slow start to a conference.
The long break for the All-Star Weekend and the Lenten Season also augurs well for the reboot in the Elasto Painters’ campaign.
“Mahahaba ang mga bakasyon, so we look at it as a time to reset, a time to bring this team together, look at what transpired the last five games, and see where we can improved,” said Guiao.
“We have the time to do that since meron tayong mahabang break.”
Rain or Shine won’t be back on the court until April 3 when it tangles with winless Converge FiberXers.
From there, up next are Blackwater, Terrafirma, Northport, Magnolia, and NLEX.(RG)
