Ginebra vs San Miguel: Battle for Solo Lead in PBA Governors’ Cup Rematch

Kings, Beermen dispute Group B solo lead

Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel Beer face a quick turnaround as they meet for the second time in the PBA Governors’ Cup eliminations this Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Both teams will battle for the solo lead in Group B in a crucial game that could secure an outright playoff spot.

Ginebra enters the game with momentum, having defeated Rain or Shine, 124-102, while San Miguel outlasted Phoenix, 139-127, in their previous games on Friday at the Big Dome. Despite limited preparation time, fans can expect an intense matchup when they meet at 7:30 p.m.

Both teams now share a 5-2 record alongside Rain or Shine, but Ginebra, led by Justin Brownlee, is currently the hottest team in the group. They’ve been on a winning streak since their initial 67-73 loss to the Elasto Painters in Candon, Ilocos Sur. Ginebra’s run began with a thrilling 108-102 win over the Beermen, highlighted by Brownlee’s 51-point performance on August 27.

San Miguel has rebounded with a three-game win streak, including a notable performance from import Jordan Adams, who returned to the lineup after a brief stint with Sheldon Mac. Adams led the Beermen with 49 points and 11 rebounds in their recent victory over Phoenix.

“Jordan showed his professionalism and dedication by staying ready. I’m very happy with his performance and his attitude,” said Beermen coach Jorge Gallent.

Now, San Miguel looks for revenge against Ginebra, setting the stage for an exciting rematch as both teams vie for the top spot.
