Blackwater’s Journey in the PBA Governors’ Cup: A Memorable Ride for George King
Despite missing the playoffs, Blackwater’s import George King had an unforgettable experience in the PBA Governors’ Cup. King praised the entire team, especially coach Jeff Cariaso, calling him the best coach he has ever worked with.
“Honestly, you (Cariaso) are the best coach that I played for. In these five, six games, the offense and defense are very simple but effective. I just want to say thank you. It’s been a real joy. My games follow because of that,” said the 30-year-old King.
King, a former NBA player, turned around Blackwater’s rough start. The team had a 0-3 record when King replaced Ricky Ledo, but he led them to three straight victories, bringing them back to a .500 mark.
However, a crucial loss against Phoenix and an overtime win by NLEX over Barangay Ginebra ended Blackwater’s quarterfinal hopes. Despite this, King’s first stint with the franchise was not spoiled.
“I played a lot of basketball, been with a lot of coaches, different markets, continents, and countries. I just want to compliment coach,” said King, a second-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in the 2018 draft.
King also praised the entire Blackwater team, calling them “my type of guys.”
“At this point in my career, I appreciate it so much. I’m really enjoying my time here in the Philippines, playing for Blackwater, being around the guys, and learning from them not only on the court but as men as well,” said the North Carolina native.
“This has been a memorable one for me.”
