Flat start hampers Kings in back-to-back losses

NO to another flat start.

LA Tenorio pointed to it as the main culprit in back-to-back losses suffered by Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Philippine Cup.

It happened in the game against San Miguel in a 95-92 loss, and repeated it in a 91-85 upset by Terrafirma.

Tenorio said the Kings couldn’t afford to commit the same mistake again, or else find themselves further down in the standings as they currently occupied the no. 5 spot at 3-3 in a tie with Blackwater and TNT.

“I think the problem really is we can’t set the tone from the start. We have to start really well. Obviously sa mga panalo namin, we’re starting really well. And sa mga talo namin, we always start the game really flat,” said the Barangay Ginebra team captain.

“We really have to take a look at that,” added Tenorio. “Hirap din maghabol, catch up basketball.”

The Kings looked so lethargic against the Terrafirma Dyip that coach Tim Cone stopped calling the shots for the team early in the second half and let deputy Richard Del Rosario handled things until the endgame.

The veteran guard, though, sees one positive take on Ginebra’s two straight losses.

“We have that sense of urgency already, especially coming in the middle of the conference. You can’t afford to make back-to-back losses again,” said Tenorio.

Ginebra won’t play its next game until Friday against Blackwater at the Philsports Arena, and Tenorio again stressed what’s obvious.

“Every team kapag kami ang kalaro, they’re going to play their best game and we really have to be ready for that from the start. Kaya ang importante, setting the tone from the start of the game,” he said.(RG)
