Converge Fights to Stay Alive Against San Miguel Beermen in Crucial Showdown
On Monday, Converge pulled off a stunning comeback to keep their playoff hopes alive. With their backs still against the wall, the FiberXers are gearing up for another do-or-die battle against the formidable San Miguel Beermen this Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
San Miguel, a powerhouse team, is looking to rebound after a rare slip in Game 3, followed by a disappointing loss to Suwon KT Sonicboom in the 2024-25 EASL season opener at MOA Arena. The Beermen are expected to come back stronger as they return to the PBA Governors’ Cup playoffs, leaving Converge with the daunting task of matching their intensity.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM, with coach Jorge Gallent and his Beermen eyeing their second chance to finish the series and set up the highly anticipated semifinals clash against Barangay Ginebra. Ginebra secured their semifinal spot with a 3-0 sweep of the Meralco Bolts.
In Game 3, San Miguel seemed poised to advance, holding a 27-point lead and maintaining a 21-point cushion going into the fourth quarter. But Converge had other plans, staging a remarkable comeback and snatching a 114-112 victory to extend the series.
The FiberXers’ bench exploded in celebration, energized by the team owner’s announcement of a game-winning incentive. This win marked a historic achievement for Converge—their first playoff victory since acquiring the Alaska Milk franchise in 2022.
However, the team remains grounded. “It’s just one win,” said Converge coach Franco Atienza. “We haven’t achieved anything yet. It’s hard to beat that team three straight. But we’ll take it one game at a time.”
Focused on Game 4, the FiberXers aim to secure a second consecutive win and force a decisive Game 5. But they know it won’t be easy.
