BARANGAY Ginebra doesn’t see star guard Scottie Thompson returning back into active duty and play in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Coach Tim Cone openly said the team isn’t putting any timeline on the possible comeback of the 30-year-old product of University of Perpetual Help, who hasn’t suited up yet in the all-Filipino conference owing to a back injury.
“It’s a back issue and you can’t really put a timetable on that,” said the Barangay Ginebra mentor when asked about any update on the health condition of Thompson.
‘It’s going to be a while yet.”
Despite not playing, Thompson has been showing up in every game of the Kings, who are still good enough to forge a two-way tie at third place with Northport Batang Pier at 3-1 following their 87-77 drubbing of rival Magnolia Hotshots on Easter Sunday.
In Thompson’s absence, Cone decided to move veteran Stanley Pringle in the starting unit and extend his playing minutes, while coming off the bench are Nards Pinto and LA Tenorio.
Cone said Thompson’s health is the priority and the Kings are not in a hurry to have him back to their active roster.
“He’s doing everything to get back in the lineup, but there’s no short term program for that,” added the Ginebra coach. (RG)
