MANILA, Philippines — Japanese star Maria Ozawa recently shared her struggles with love due to her past career in the adult video (AV) industry. In an interview on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” Ozawa admitted that her former job made her question whether men were genuinely interested in her as a person or simply attracted to her body.
“Yes, of course,” Maria responded when asked if she had ever doubted love because of her work. “Especially when I was in the AV business, it was really obvious that people liked me for what I was, not who I really am.”
Ozawa, once a popular AV actress in Japan, became a well-known figure not only in her home country but also in the Philippines. Reflecting on her experiences, she shared how she faced rudeness from both men and women, lost friends, and even had a strained family life when she first entered the industry.
Maria also revealed that she received unsolicited advice, with some people telling her that she would never have a real relationship or be able to trust anyone due to her career. “Who would, like, really, you know, think about you in a serious way and all that,” she recalled.
However, Maria’s life has since improved. Her relationship with her family has healed, and she now has friends who support her career choices. Having left the AV industry behind, Maria is transitioning to mainstream acting. She recently joined the cast of GMA-7’s historical drama “Pulang Araw,” where she plays Haruka Tanaka, the wife of Jacky Woo’s Chikara and mother of David Licauco’s Hiroshi—a Japanese immigrant family living in the Philippines during World War II.
Maria expressed her hopes of one day getting married, describing it as something “nice” she looks forward to. Known for her experimental nature, she also shared her preferences in a partner. She seeks someone who understands the importance of her work and is not too conservative, particularly given the traditional expectations for women in Japan.
“But for me, I want somebody who’ll be supportive of me and independent,” she concluded.
