Korean Actor Kim Jisoo Takes on First Father Role in Filipino Film “Mujigae”
MANILA, Philippines — Renowned Korean actor Kim Jisoo, known for his role in “Moonlovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,” is stepping into his first father role in the Filipino film “Mujigae.” The film stars Alexa Ilacad and introduces Ryrie Sophia.
In “Mujigae,” which translates to “rainbow” in Korean, Jisoo portrays Park Ji-sung, the biological father of the titular character Mujigae (Ryrie). Directed by Randolph Longjas, this family drama centers on Mujigae, an orphaned child left in the care of her reluctant aunt Sunny (Alexa Ilacad). Sunny, who has always been vocal about not wanting children, hesitates to adopt her niece after her sister’s death.
Jisoo, who has often played the third wheel in popular Korean dramas like “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” and “Scarlet Heart,” expressed excitement about this new role. In “Scarlet Heart,” he played an adoptive parent to IU’s character’s daughter, which prepared him for this role.
Madonna Tarrayo of Unitel Straight Shooters shared during a recent press conference that they were fortunate to cast Jisoo, thanks to filmmaker and Benilde professor Wanggo Gallaga. Tarrayo mentioned that Jisoo, already residing in the Philippines and appearing in GMA-7 shows like “Black Rider” and “Abot Kamay na Pangarap,” was an ideal choice. His management was cooperative, making the casting process smooth.
Jisoo is currently learning English and seeking more opportunities in the Philippines.
