MANILA, Philippines — Actress Jessy Mendiola has shown her unwavering support for her husband, Luis Manzano, as he embarks on his political journey to run for vice-governor of Batangas. This decision, although unexpected, has garnered significant attention.
Luis Manzano officially filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections’ office located at the Batangas Provincial Capitol. He was accompanied by his mother, renowned actress Vilma Santos-Recto, who is making a bid to return as Batangas governor.
Vilma Santos-Recto has a notable political history, having served as Batangas governor from 2007 to 2016 and as the Representative of the province’s 6th district until 2022, where she held the position of Deputy Speaker during her second term in Congress.
This marks Luis Manzano’s debut in the political arena. His father, host-actor Edu Manzano, previously held the position of Makati vice-mayor. Additionally, Luis’ half-brother, Ryan, who is Vilma’s son with politician Ralph Recto, has also filed his COC to represent Batangas’ 6th district.
Following the family’s COC filing, Jessy Mendiola took to social media to express her pride and support for Luis. She shared heartfelt photos and a caption that began with, “This wasn’t part of our plan but God had other plans for us.”

Jessy praised Luis for his diligence, compassion, and generosity, highlighting his selfless nature and willingness to help others without seeking recognition. She emphasized that participating in the elections was not part of their original plan but assured Luis of her full support, calling it a significant and positive change in their lives.
“I am extremely proud of you for choosing this path, the path to help make a change and extend help to others. You are made for this,” Jessy concluded.
Vilma Santos-Recto recently defended Luis and Ryan’s decision to enter politics, noting that many families are involved in public service and that her family is committed to genuine service. She also mentioned that Luis and Ryan would represent Ralph Recto in public when he is occupied with his duties as Finance Secretary.
“Now they are experiencing the real lives of people, and I feel they have developed a genuine heart for it. They grew up with us in public service, witnessing and experiencing it firsthand,” Vilma added.
